Your Provincial Syllabus
Your festival chooses the classes in one of two ways; they either have their own unique syllabus or they operate on a base syllabus provided to them by a provincial organization they are a member of. If they operate on a provincial syllabus, you will be able to find more details about the rules for entry in a class in that provincial syllabus.
In Alberta and the Northwest Territories

The Alberta Music Festivals Association provides a provincial syllabus for all its member festivals. Their classes appear in the syllabus and in MusicFestivalSuite.com as 5-digit numbers starting with 1 through 9. If you see a class in MusicFestivalSuite.com that begins with a 0, it is part of your local festival’s addenda. You will need to consult with your local festival for a listing of those classes and the rules and advantages associated with them.

Changes for the 2019 Alberta Music Festival Association Syllabus from 2018
There is only one significant change to the syllabus for 2019, and that revolves around the Alberta Music Festival Association's exit from the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals. As a result, all the Provincial National classes have been renamed to Alberta Excellence Classes. All other changes are minor rule clarifications. For a list of complete changes, and all rules and criteria for the Alberta Music Festival Association, view the Alberta Music Festival Association Syllabus Page.

Changes in the 2015 Alberta Music Festival Association Syllabus from 2014
The most significant change was the clarification for Musical Theatre of the Up-Tempo and Ballad options. A comprehensive Musical Theatre List has been compiled for teachers and students to use to determine whether or not a selection is Up-Tempo or a Ballad. Where a selection does not exist on the list, please contact your local festival for help with the interpretation.
Other changes include minor adjustments to classes in School Choral, Choral Speech, and Provincial classes in Piano and Choir. It is the responsibility of the teacher and participant to understand the syllabus, so please read all the applicable sections to ensure you meet the relevant criteria.
